Rhône Royalty:
2021 Chave Saint-Joseph

Posted by Ian McFadden

Every year, this is one of the allocations that I'm most excited about.

With that said, the 2021 vintage is a Saint-Joseph that we've been awaiting with especially keen interest.  It's a vintage in the northern Rhône that we simply love.

Chave's ability to render Syrah with depth, detail, and sophistication is without parallel. Their Saint-Joseph showcases the heights that the appellation can reach in a way that very few other wines do.

The 2021 offers up a combination of concentration, clarity, and elegance that is jaw-dropping. Chave's Saint-Joseph is built to age beautifully. The 2021 possesses incredible finesse, precision, and depth of complexity that make us really excited about how it will evolve.

The Chave family has deep roots in Saint-Joseph, dating all the way back to 1481. Jean-Louis has been a major proponent of Saint-Joseph’s potential, buying choice parcels and painstakingly rebuilding terraces there since the 1990s. Today, the Chave's family home is in Mauves, in the beating heart of Saint-Joseph.

Chave's Saint-Joseph is a wine that I buy in quantity and cellar every vintage. Chave's Saint-Joseph with age is impressive and delicious. I strongly advise you to grab at least a few bottles. It's a wine that you'll want around in quantity.
