Rebholz's Grosses Gewächs deserve to be placed alongside the world's best - think Clos Ste. Hune, Keller's Abtserde, etc.
I've been tasting them for a decade now and they still shock me with their clarity. They are razor sharp, crystal clear and rigorously defined.
I have to say that Rebholz's 2014s caught me off-guard. I always taste the wines with high expectations, but the 2014's energy and cut really surprised me. Everything points to it being a stunning collection for Rebholz.
As they usually are, the Ganz Horn and Kastanienbusch were the two best wines. In 2014, they both possess a vividly pointed, cool minerality and such elegance and tension that they seem destined to be among the best of the vintage.
To give you a quick rundown of the sites, Ganz Horn is a sub-parcel of the Im Sonnenschein site that’s composed of gravel and colored sandstone. It is among the most mineral, rigorous and Zen-like of Rebholz's Grosses Gewächs.
Kastanienbusch is Rebholz's magnum opus. It's a red slate site that delivers elegance, complexity and incredible depth. The interwoven notes of smoke and citrus are studded with minerals.
These are some of the most thrilling and aristocratic dry Rieslings you'll taste. Every time that I sit down to write in email on Rebholz, I immediately want to crack a bottle open. I'm very happy to offer another great vintage for these two wines.
