Roagna:
2006-2016

Posted by Ian McFadden

Along with Conterno, Mascarello, and Rinaldi, Roagna is a part of Piedmont's elite.

Roagna turns out no-nonsense, old-school styled Barolos and Barbarescos. Here long-macerations, late harvests, low yields, and late releases are the norm. This, combined with top holdings, produces deeply complex and slow-to-unfold Nebbiolos.

Today, we're happy to celebrate Roagna's wines with an offer that spans a decade.

It's difficult to think of Roagna and not think of the Pajé vineyard. They have other great and more famous sites, like Asili, but Pajé often seems like the beating heart of the estate. The pinnacle of Roagna's range, the Crichet Pajé, comes from the vineyard.

While Roagna is closely associated with Barbaresco, the Barolo Pira is, along with Barbaresco Pajè, a flagship bottling. The Roagna family purchased the monopole site in 1989. It is endowed with vines going back to 1937 and a fascinating soil composition of iron-rich limestone and blue and grey marls.

The Albesani is a personal favorite. The cru is the source of Giacosa’s famed Santo Stefano. The parcel that Roagna rents is near Giacosa’s, and is situated in the sweet spot of the cru.

I'll wrap this up. Roagna is consistently making some of the best Nebbiolos around. I'm happy to be able to offer this wide range of their wines.
