Ruthlessly Mineral, Unmistakable Intensity
2007 Léclapart L’Apôtre
Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut
Lowest Price
For the past month, we've been beating the drum for Léclapart. Today, I'm happy to offer his top wine, L’Apôtre.
Our Léclapart parcel recently landed at our warehouse and we've been pulling corks with high expectations. And the bottles keep exceeding them.
These aren't easy Champagnes. They're singular - demandingly so. But once the wines start to click, they're shocking expressions of Champagne.
It's impossible not to pause on the price. L’Apôtre typically goes for between $180-$225. The wines really stand on their own, but I thought it was important to find well-priced parcels of Léclapart so that I could get the wines in as many hands as possible.
Léclapart has only 3ha. He's fanatical in the vineyard and his wines have a cult following. There's no one making Champagne like Léclapart. All of this drives prices up.
The hallmark of his wines is a tension-filled, piercing chalky mineral core. His village of Trépail specializes in an electric expression of Chardonnay and it feels like Léclapart teases nearly every distinctive nuance out the terroir.
This is especially true of L’Apôtre. It's sourced from a single vineyard - La Pierre St-Martin. The vines here were planted in 1946. (Check out Peter Liem's profile on Léclapart to learn more). L’Apôtre really amplifies his style into something ruthlessly mineral and unmistakable in intensity. And while this wine can be stern in its youth, the 2007 vintage has a welcomed, higher-tone profile and gentler structure.
L’Apôtre represents the pinnacle of some of the most captivating and thought-provoking wines coming out of Champagne. I'm really happy to offer it at this super-sharp pricing.
