"In a word, terrific" -Burghound
If it's about the company you keep, than Vosne's 1er Cru Suchots is living large.
It's situated in the middle of some of the grandest Grand Crus, bordering Romanée St. Vivant and Richebourg to the south along with Echézeaux to the north.
Suchots is one of those special names, a site that transcends its official designation, floating in that special greatness that belongs to 1er Crus like Gaudichots, Clos St. Jacques, etc.
And when it comes to Suchots, Arnoux-Lachaux is simply the best, period. Yes, Bouchard makes a very nice Suchots. D'Arlot's and Hudelot-Noellat's Suchots are stylish and sexy. Liger-Belair is on the up and up...
...all the same time, at the moment, no one is able to render Suchots with such dramatic elegance, almost bordering on flamboyant (Vosne-Romanée doesn't get much sexier than Suchots). The close proximity to Richebourg feels very telling with Arnoux's Suchots - there's a weight, stature and complexity that's reminiscent of a Grand Cru.
2008 is an important vintage for this wine. The vintage's mineral-lead purity has lended a fascinating dimension to the signature rich texture of Arnoux-Lachaux's Suchots. The wine not only shows the pristine nature of 08, but weaves it into a power and ample texture that's truly unique to the wine.
Stephen Tanzer nails it when he says: "This really transcends the vintage."
Arnoux-Lachaux's Suchot is seriously sought after. And with only .45 hectares (yes, that's less than half a hectare), things can get ugly.
The parcel of Arnoux-Lachaux's 2008 Suchots on offer today felt like minor victory, but in reality it amounts to just a handful of cases. This is a wine where there's simply not much to go around as a quick scan of the market will tell you.
The way people chase this wine is warranted not only for the quality, but also for the value.
We're now in a familiar position when it comes to Burgundy - this is highly recommended, and painfully limited. Please give us your maximum order, and we'll do our best to allocate fairly.
