Epic Complexity
Walking on Tip-Toes
2012 Schaefer
Domprobst Auslese #14 375ml
"The purity and nascent complexity here are simply brilliant.." -John Gilman
It feels obvious to write that Willi Schaefer's 2012s are some of the wines of the vintage. It's the same story every year.
2012 is defined by the way it combines purity, concentration and a sense of agility. They are just gorgeous wines.
The vintage's signature really makes itself felt in Schaefer's Auslesen, and in particular the #14. It combines an enormous depth of complexity while maintaining a walk-on-tip-toe elegance.
In short, this is Auslese at its most heartbreaking.
Over the years, I've become more and more taken by just how good Schaefer's wines are. They are just so fine, so beautifully graceful. I can't tell you how many times Schaefers have shared the table with German heavy hitters, like Egon Müller and JJ Prum, and the Schaefer wines stole everyone's attention.
For the '12 Auslese #14, what stands outis the shocking amount of purity and detail that it possesses while having an insane amount of palate presence. The combination of intensity with clarity and lift is something that only the greatest wines achieve.
It's probably smart to stop here. Schaefer only has 4ha and our Schaefer offers always sell out. Only German fans are receiving this offer, but we'll have to allocate. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.

John Gilman: "The 2012 Domprobst Auslese AP #14 is yet another beautifully elegant and gently glazed bottle that shows off the beauty of very clean botrytis on these golden berries. The stunning bouquet soars from the glass in a mix of orange, white peach, gentle notes of honey, a fine base of slate and a floral topnote redolent of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, fullbodied, pure and ethereal, with bottomless depth, lovely mineral drive and a very, very long, zesty and utterly classic finish. The purity and nascent complexity here are simply brilliant."
