Pergole Torte has been a pillar of Crush since we opened almost thirteen years ago.
Our affection for, and our awe of, the wine has never faded.
If anything, a combination of killer old bottles and the estate going from strength to strength in recent vintages has caused us to grow even more impressed by this extraordinary producer.
The 2014 is one of the most fascinating and utterly classic editions we've tasted in some time. Pergole Torte takes Sangiovese to an unheard-of level of nobility and elegance. 2014 is a very incisive, finessed and mineral driven vintage.
Montevertine's Martino Manetti considers the 2014 to be one of his favorite vintages of the past 20 years. For Manetti, 2014 is reminiscent of the cooler vintages from back in the day.
The 2014 is utterly captivating in its lifted, ultra-pure elegance. It offers up a beguiling set of aromatics with incredibly expressive notes of red fruits, herbs, spice and floral notes. Compared to recent vintages, 2014 works on a smaller scale, but with an intensity and harmony that assures you that it will age beautifully.
Montevertine is in Radda, one of the coolest, highest-altitude spots in Chianti Classico. Here, and in Montevertine's hands, Sangiovese reaches an unparalleled level of finesse and beautifully haunting aromatics. The 2014 really flaunts just how beautiful and complex this aromatic component can be.
Pergole Torte has become an obsession of mine. It's a wine of such class and ravishing beauty that it really exists on its own plane. Antonio Galloni calls Pergole Torte "simply one of the world’s elite wines" and it's hard not to agree. I'd encourage you to jump on this - once the initial Pergole Torte disappears from the market, you rarely see it return.
