Single Vineyard Splendor:
2019 Chartogne-Taillet Blanc de Blancs Cuvee Heurtebise Extra Brut

Posted by Ian McFadden

For quite some time, Chartogne-Taillet has been among the most exciting addresses in Champagne.

Chartogne-Taillet's lineup reaches its pinnacle in the exactingly rendered single-vineyard bottlings. They highlight just how careful the winemaking is.

Today, I'm happy to offer Chartogne-Taillet 2019 Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Heurtebise for $123.95 per bottle.

Alexandre Chartogne has followed the uber-conscientious viticulture that he was introduced to while working at Selosse. This focus on viticulture, along with sensitive winemaking,  shows in the complexity and soil expression of the wines.

The Heurtebise Blanc de Blancs is a single vineyard wine that's beautiful in 2019.  It's a south-facing vineyard of sandy clay over limestone. Heurtebise is a deeply textured Blanc de Blancs that always boasts plenty of tension and a dynamic minerality.

The 2019 has an impressive purity, harmony, and an energetic structure. The richness of Heurtebise makes the wine especially delicious in 2019. The wine's immediacy is backed by a mysterious minerality and bright currents of citrus notes. I'm fond of how the wine combines power with an expansive stoniness and lovely buoyancy.

It's been some time since we've offered any of Chartogne-Taillet's single vineyard bottlings. As Chartogne-Taillet's reputation has spread, the wines have become hard to find. I feel lucky to be able to offer this.
