"Sleek, intense and well-detailed”
- 2016 Berthaut-Gerbet Vosne-Romanée

Since her first vintage in 2013, Amélie Berthaut has been making waves in Burgundy.

At just 25 years old, Amélie started creating a lot of buzz when she took over her family’s domaine and released a line of top-quality wines from the forgotten village of Fixin. The wines were so compelling that everyone seemed to take notice.

In addition to her parcels in Fixin, Amélie also inherited a parcel in Vosne-Romanee that was planted between 1935-1955. In recent vintages, pricing on Vosne villages has climbed. It's nice to see that Berthaut-Gerbet's is relatively still within reach.

What makes Amélie’s wines so special is their balance between elegance and a well-defined intensity. The 2016 Vosne is a lovely example of this style. In Burgundy, 2016 produced concentrated wines with nice brightness and poise. Berthaut's boast the vintage's punch, but she endows it with a rare delicacy and ethereal quality.

Her 2016 Vosne has an effortless grace to it along with a packed mid-palate of spice, floral notes, and dark fruits. There's a suave, velvety texture and an airy finish with aromatic complexity.

Since her first vintage, I’ve been seriously impressed with Amélie Berthaut’s wines. She’s quickly establishing Berthaut-Gerbet as one of Burgundy’s most exciting estates. The Vosne is very much worth checking out.

Burghound: "This is also firmly reduced. The sleek, intense and well-detailed medium-bodied flavors possess very good mid-palate concentration along with plenty of punch that continues onto the firm, complex and moderately austere finale that exhibits sneaky good length. One to consider."
