Ulysse Collin Blanc de Blancs
Les Pierrières Extra Brut (2010 Base)
"Some of the most compelling wines being made in Champagne today." -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Tasting the Champagnes of Ulysse Collin is an earth-shattering experience.
They are utterly spellbinding, individual Champagnes. Olivier Collin spent some time with Anselme Selosse and, like so many of Champagne's younger generation, was inspired to take over his family's vineyards, which were being rented out to a big maison.

The wines were always very good, but now everything really seems to have come together. In the past few vintages, Ulysse Collin has taken off. So much so that Collin has become tightly allocated. It seems that everyone who tastes them takes notice.
Ulysse Collin's signature is creating Champagnes of epic scale and staining, detailed minerality. Of the line-up, Les Pierrières is the most intensely mineral and has the most lifted elegance. Collin is in the Sézannais, an obscure area just south of the Côte des Blancs. On the Pierrières vineyard, the always thorough and insightful Peter Liem writes, "The chalk in this area is very close to the surface, with little topsoil, and it’s mixed with chunks of black silex, which is highly unusual in Champagne."
You can definitely feel the influence of the chalky soil in Pierrières' kinetic, tactile minerality. There's a beautiful chalky core that leads to an explosive mid-palate. For all of its breadth and complexity, there's a thrilling, energetic cut.
We typically sell out of our allocation of Ulysse Collin in a couple of weeks. I'm happy to be able to offer this good sized parcel sharply priced. Few Champagnes deliver such compelling and mind-bending complexity.
