A Legend in the Making
2006 Soldera Brunello di Montalcino
Case Basse Riserva
World Class, Unyieldingly Traditional

"At their best, these are some of the most profound wines being made anywhere on the planet." -Antonio Galloni

Put a bunch of the world's best bottles on a table and Soldera's Brunello will hold its own.

That's the way it rolls...

In the benchmark 2006 vintage, Soldera's Brunello Riserva promises to be monumental. There is little doubt that this will prove to be one of the masterpieces from this illustrious estate.

2006 is a vintage that we're convinced will be remembered as one Brunello's best modern vintages. Our feelings about the vintage are no secret - we've sent out many 06 Brunello offers. 2006 Soldera is grandest finale we could imagine for our 06 Brunello campaign.

Today, we offer this legend in the making at the lowest price around.

Soldera is one of those estates that transcend their regions. Its wines deserve to be compared to the greatest wines of the world - Conterno, G. Mascarello, Rousseau, Roumier, DRC. Those are exactly the wines that it rubs shoulders with in serious collectors' cellars.

Soldera's Brunellos are simply like no others. They are uncompromising and traditional; Sangiovese that electrifies the palate with a super-fine acidity shot through layers of tongue-staining blackberries, purple wildflowers and mountains of tannin.

We're talking classic Brunellos, both dense with fruit and flower along with being precise and transparent.

In 2006, this signature announces itself proudly, emphatically. The vintage produced Brunellos of fierce power and structure, but that's only half the story. 2006 is also about refinement, detail and purity of expression.

Antonio Galloni gives a very good sense of the vintage when he writes, "Readers will not want to miss these fabulous wines... In general the best 2006s are big, powerful Brunelli with beautifully delineated aromatics, great concentration of fruit and plenty of structure."

Soldera burst onto the Brunello scene in the late 1970s. In no time, the wines had caught the world's attention. Gianfranco Soldera's unwavering, impassioned pursuit of the purest terroir rushed him into the spotlight.

There's a bit of eccentricity here, as well. The vines are cultivated organically with a deep respect for the land and that can't help but contribute to the quality of his wines. But, at Soldera, it is about more than just grapes. This is a veritable flora and fauna wonderland - a specially designed ecosystem meant to reflect nature in perfect balance - it's eccentric, but still, it's impossible to argue with the results.

Once in the winery, vinification is unyieldingly traditional - the wines see only native yeasts, no temperature control for fermentation, and they're aged for at least five years in large Slavonian casks prior to release without fining or filtration.

It's obvious that this is a labor of love. The winemaking is animated by such passion and such a unique perspective. It seems inevitable that the results are both impressive and singular. In 2006, it should be said, they are beyond this.

As you could probably guess, pursuing such perfection, such a high level of wine, comes with limitations. In this case, it's quantities. Soldera is a mere 2ha.

This is Sangiovese like none other, and we'll take what we can get. But be warned, quantities are limited. We urge you to give us your maximum order and we'll allocate as needed.
