"Some of the most remarkable vinous excitement... "
2015 Domaine Belluard Le Feu

Posted by Joe Salamone

Belluard makes some of the most eye-opening wines you'll ever taste. And Le Feu is the pinnacle of his line-up.

Out of Belluard's line-up, Le Feu is simultaneously the most concentrated and complex, and the most refined and precise.

It's one of the most exciting wines we taste each year.

Le Feu is from a low-yielding, old-vine selection from a very particular high-altitude site. Its name refers directly to the high iron content in the soil, because it stains the clay soils a fiery red.

The wine is made from Gringet, the native grape of Belluard's obscure corner of the Savoie. Belluard owns half the 22ha planted with Gringet. It's a testament to how compelling these wines are that Belluard was able to land Gringet and his obscure corner of France on the map. In the U.S. the wines have become brutally allocated.

What makes Le Feu so compelling is its focus, transparency, elegance and vivid minerality. There's a ridiculous spectrum of flavors from spring flowers, to smoky minerality, to subtle vegetable notes, and stone fruits. The energy, clarity and precision make it clear that this is Belluard's magnum opus. The 2015 shows extroverted fruit and floral notes with great freshness and balance.

David Schildknecht called Belluard's wines:"Some of the most remarkable vinous excitement and promise I have witnessed." These are dazzling wines. We're always happy to offer Belluard's Le Feu. I should warn you that we saw much less than we usually do and expect our small allocation to disappear quickly.
