Star of the Vintage
2011 Brovia Barolo Villero & Brea Ca'Mia
Brovia's 2011 Barolos represent the best of the vintage.
They simply nailed the vintage. Across the board, the wines possess shocking rigor, depth and a driving, finely balanced length.
Over the years, we've had many really impressive bottles of Brovia from the 70s and 80s. They have always been deeply soulful Barolos that we buy and cellar almost every vintage. Over the past 5-7 years, however, Brovia has really stepped up their game. Currently, Brovia offers some of the greatest value for long-aging red wine that we know of.
The Brovia style isn't shy on power, but what makes them so impressive is their finesse and nuance. They lead with red fruits, but the backdrop is a kaleidoscopic mix of earth, herb and flower.
Brovia's 2011s show the poise and radiance of the vintage along with an elegance, lift and sternness that helps set them apart from the pack. Both the 2011 Ca'Mia and the Villero show the polish and expressiveness of the vintage, but below the surface lies an intense, tannic core that adds a layer of multifaceted complexity that few other producers achieve.
The Brea Ca’Mia offers a richer, darker, earthier and truffle-y side. It pulls this off with regal lift and elegance. Villero is powerful for sure, but compared to Ca'Mia it's brighter and more pointed in its elegance, with silkier tannins.
Brovia has always had great sites and worked carefully, in a traditional manner. However, in recent years Brovia has joined the shortlist of Piedmont's best. The success of the 2011s makes it clear that Brovia is one of the region's top talents.
