Summer Mixed Case
BIG Savings on a Summertime Sampler
Every Bottle Discounted 20%!

No need to belabor the introduction here, we all know where the mercury is heading (yesterday was a pretty good preview). Suffice it to say that at this time of year, finding the right wine to refresh and invigorate is essential. Don't worry, we have you covered with today's summer mixed case.

As always, we’ve aggressively discounted the mixed case offering 20% off.

To help you prepare for August,  today's mixed case leans heavily toward whites and rosés. (We included 5 and 2 of each, respectively.) However, we also threw in a couple reds, some of which take particularly well to a chill, so don't be afraid to throw 'em in the fridge for a half-hour before drinking. Alternately, for those who can’t imagine drinking anything but white wine in August, we’ve put together a white-only case as well. (Please note that the red-only case will return in the fall.)

Just a few words about some of today's wines. The crisp and mountain fresh Montmollin Neuchatel from the area around Lake Geneva is the best antidote to heat-induced fatigue that we’ve found. Godeval’s Godello, a rare sighting of an indigenous Spanish white grape, offers the Montmollin some competition in the refreshment category with its zesty lime fruits and intriguing spice notes. In a weightier vein, Pieropan’s Soave delivers luscious layers of stone fruits that are complicated by herbal notes.

The reds demand mention as well, because picking summer reds isn’t a casual affair. They need rigor, nimbleness and above all they must cry out for you to take another sip. Headlining this list is Maxime Magnon, a disciple of Morgon legend Marcel Lapierre. Magnon’s Demarrant combines the agility and brightness of a Cru Beaujolais with the classic notes of sun-baked herbs of its south of France origin. This wine offers a compellingly singular take on the often weightier and rustic wines of Languedoc. Being the Beaujolais fanatics that we are, we couldn’t help but include one: Coquelet’s gorgeous Chiroubles.

Finally…the rosés. We offered two: The crisp and slightly spicy Campuget rosé hailing from the south of France and a zippy Austrian Zweigelt rosé from Kracher that’s well suited for food or to drink alone. (Please see below for a full listing of all the wines on offer, including the all white mixed case.)

Please call the store (212-980-9463) to take advantage of this opportunity to drink well, beat the heat and save. Please specify whether you’d prefer a white/red or white-only mixed case. Check out the website regularly, because as the seasons change, so will our mixed case. In fact, we will *always* have a tailored mixed case available on-line, so when these 12 bottles run out, don't hesitate to reorder.

Whites

2008 Montmollin Neuchatel
This crisp and lively Swiss wine grown near Lake Geneva is a perfect antidote to the summer heat. The wine has a pure mountain water minerality along with apple notes.

2007 St. Barbe Mâcon Villages
The estate produces such pristine fruit that they sell a lot of their grapes to the region’s famous Bret Brothers. The quality of their fruit is wildly apparent in their dazzlingly pure estate bottle on offer here.

2008 Godeval Godello
Godeval was instrumented in reviving the Godello grape on Spanish soils. Once you taste the wine, you’ll be thankful. Somewhat reminiscent of Chablis in its minerality and citrus flavors, but also possessing a fascinating woodsy spice note.

2008 Arregi Txakolina
This now famous Basque white is pure fizzy enjoyment.

2006 Pieropan Soave Calvarino
Before Pieropan and a couple other producers came onto the scene, Soave was thought of as an innocuous wine. In Pieropan’s hands, Soave becomes a wine of complexly layered stone fruits, herbs, flowers, and a slew of other orchard allusions.

White-Red Includes:

2008 Campuget Tradition Rosé
This Southern French rosé delivers all the herbal and lively qualities that make rosés from this area so lovely.

2007 Kracher Zweigelt Rosé
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah! Zip-a-dee-ay! There's plenty of sunshine heading your way in this crisp rose from Austria's warm eastern region of Burgenland. Bright red currant flavors and the spiced notes of the native Zweigelt grape make this an irresistible quencher from one of the area's top producers.

2007 Magnon Démarrant
Maxime Magnon trained with Morgon’s zen master of natural winemaking, Marcel Lapierre, before leasing vines in the Languedoc. He has quickly established himself as one of the Languedoc’s most talented winemakers. His Démarrant is an ideal summer wine: light in body with brisk acidity and pure vivid fruits along with an herbal kick adding further interest. Serve lightly chilled.

2007 Coquelet Chiroubles
This is fantastic work from the son of Georges Descombes, one of Beaujolais’ top growers. The wine delivers notes of violets, ground rocks, and juicy red and purple fruits. Lovely and dangerously gulpable.

2006 Chevillon Bourgogne Passetoutgrains
Along with Pataille, Robert Chevillon makes the most compelling Passetoutgrains that we’ve tasted. His 06 is a blend of 85% Pinot and 15% Gamay. It’s amazing how this wine is able to combine muscle, energy and freshness.

2008 Occhipinti SP68 Rosso Vittoria
Those of you who have tasted Occhipinti’s Nero di Avola and Frappato know the magic that she able to tease out of these grapes. We were elated when she introduced a more affordable blend of both grapes. This is a wine of finesse, depth and soil influence. Brilliant stuff.

2007 Ventura Pena Do Lobo
Hailing from the steep terraced vineyards of Ribera Sacra, this wine based on the Mencia grape offers a lovely silken texture and captivating herbal-inflected raspberry fruits.

White-Only Includes:

 2007 Pinon Vouvray
Francois Pinon simply made amazing wines in 07. His Vouvray tradition with its notes of herbs, honey, layered apple and quince fruits is a case in point.

2004 Maestracci "E Prove" Corse Calvi
From the Island of Corsica comes this Vermentino based wine that is perfect with grilled fish, pesto, and generally, any type of seafood. There is a lovely herbal and salty sea breeze minerality to this wine.

2007 Boudin Chablis
2007 was a great classic Chablis vintage. Boudin’s lovingly cared for, hand picked grapes produced a great Village wine. Mineral and redolent of lime, this wine delivers plenty of concentration and interest.

2007 Bregeon Muscadet Sur Lie
Another stunning 07 Muscadet. This offers up mineral saturated quince and stone fruits along with floral notes.

2008 Paso A Paso Verdeho
La Mancha: the high plateau home of the intrepid Don Quixote, and the place where Verdeho roots down deep yield this fearless white. Its round body and citrus brightness make Paso a Paso an ideal match for light meats and fish, and at cocktail parties it will prepare your guests for epic quests and follies alike.

2007 Au Bon Climat Chardonnay
Classic rich styled, California Chard executed thoughtfully and judiciously.

2008 Clos Roche Blanche Touraine Sauvignon Blanc
A perennial favorite, this gives much more expensive Sancerres a run for their money. Great concentration and classic herbal, citrusy Sauvignon Blanc character.
