As we've said many times before, Luca Roagna is producing wines with mind-blowing purity and textural allure.
Their 2019s are a chance to witness Roagna in top form.

This is simply an extraordinary collection of wines. Antonio Galloni has written that: "In the 2019 Barolos and Barbarescos, readers will find a set of super-classic wines."
Today, I'm excited to offer Roagna's 2019Â Barolo La Pira sharply priced at $179.95.Â
While Roagna is closely associated with Barbaresco, the Barolo Pira is, along with Barbaresco Pajè, a flagship bottling. Roagna's Pira is always one of the most finessed and lifted of their collection.
The Roagna family purchased the monopole site in 1989. It is endowed with vines going back to 1937 and a fascinating soil composition of iron-rich limestone and blue and grey marls.
The 2019 has a radiant clarity and a punchy dynamic energy that's thrilling. There's also a soaring power, gripping depth, and beautiful elegance. It's shocking how the wine manages to combine such density and verve. The spectrum of flavors is jaw-dropping - layered red fruits, game, earth, tar, herbs, spice, etc.
For years now, Roagna has been one of the most exciting estates in all of Piedmont. Along with Conterno, Mascarello, and Rinaldi, Roagna is a part of Piedmont's elite. The success of the 2019 Pira highlights the level that Roagna is working at.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2019 Barolo Pira is powerful and deep, but also very closed. There's so much energy here, but readers will have to be patient, as this classically austere young Barolo clearly needs time. Hints of pine, menthol, licorice and dried herbs appear with some reluctance. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. Superb."
