Ulysse Collin Blanc de Blancs
Les Roises Extra Brut (2010 Base)

Each year, we find ourselves more and more impressed with the wines of Ulysse Collin. With every passing vintage, they continue to reach new, thrilling heights.

Simply put, there's been an enormous build up of momentum and excitement about his wines. These days, it's impossible not to take notice of the wines. This has really limited allocations. Six bottles or a case to top accounts has become the norm.

The first release of Roises was the 2008 base. The wine immediately blew us away. The Les Roises comes from 60 year old vines on clay-rich soils. If Collin's Les Pierrières flaunts a lithe chalky minerality, Les Roises is expansive, offering up vast complexity and scale.

The magic of Roises is how its breadth is married to a tension and detail that's thrilling. This is an exceedingly rare and profoundly compelling combination. Expect an impressive spectrum of flavors--from layers of vibrant citrus and stone fruits to notes of soil, smoke and slate. There’s texture, finesse and outstanding length, with a persistent, mineral-driven finish.

Olivier Collin has deep roots in Champagne. His family has worked the vineyards since the 1800’s, but it wasn’t until his apprenticeship with Anselme Selosse that he was inspired to take back their vines which had been rented to negociants.

When you taste one of Collin’s wines, Selosse’s influence becomes palpable. His Champagnes are utterly individual and relentlessly expressive, teasing out the nuances of the terroir in stupefying ways.

The wines of Ulysses Collin are undoubtedly some of the most mesmerizing and profound emerging from Champagne today. With only a decade of winemaking under his belt, Olivier Collin is really hitting his stride. We're expecting big things. You don't have to look any further than the 2010 base Roises for proof.
