2010 Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin
1er Cru Aux Combottes

Aux Combottes is a special place. And in Dujac's hands the site assumes a magical stature.

Aux Combottes defies any neat hierarchies between 1er and Grand Crus. Indeed, Combottes can deliver a level of palate presence, complexity and distinction that can rival many a Grand Cru.

Simply put, Combottes is one of those blessed places in Burgundy and Dujac is the master. Dujac's Aux Combottes is one of Burgundy's cult wines, like Ramonet Ruchottes, Lafarge Clos des Chênes, Drouhin Clos des Mouches or Fourrier Clos St. Jacques, it is a wine that transcends its "official" classification.

That's why Dujac's Combottes rests in the cellars of blue-chip collectors, right along the top Grand Crus.

We're happy to offer one of finest recent Combottes from Dujac, the 2010, at $214.95 per bottle.

Dujac is one of Burgundy's hallowed elites, and it will come as no surprise that the estate really killed it in 2010. On the vintage, Dujac's Jeremy Seysses says, "I very much like them as they have real freshness and a highly appealing sense of energy. They're ripe, transparent, balanced...".

The story of the 1er Cru Aux Combottes is, of course, all about location. Combottes is located in the southern part of Gevrey on the border with Morey St. Denis and is pretty much surrounded by Grand Crus - it exists in the shadows of Clos de la Roche, Latricieres-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin.

Combottes is intense with earth, mineral and meaty Gevrey fruit finely interwoven. For all it's minerality and power, Combottes manages to maintain a gorgeous silken elegance. There's some of the delicacy of Morey with some of the muscle of Gevrey - it's a really impressive combination.

Before placing the 2010 in the "Outstanding" category, Burghound notes: "the supporting tannins are well-integrated and I particularly like the highly sophisticated mouth feel." Dujac's 2010 Combottes is a beautifully composed wine with a glowing energy and transparency.

For me, Dujac's signature is the way that the wines attack all five senses with a grace and sensuality. The wines are ruthlessly intense and yet, ethereal and intoxicatingly perfumed.

The 2010 Combottes dramatizes just how captivating these qualities can be while it highlights the pristine clarity of the vintage. The only issue is that yields were seriously down in 2010. Dujac's Combottes always sells out quickly, but the 2010 will will be gone even faster.
