Tempier in the Languedoc
2012 Mas des Brousses Terrasses du Larzac

Domaine Tempier produces some of the greatest and most soulful wines of Southern France.

The grandson of Lulu and Lucien Peyraud, Tempier's guiding lights, has gone out on his own with Tempier Mourvèdre clippings in hand.

The results are very noteworthy.

And since he settled in a low-key corner of Southern France, the wines are great values.

Xavier Peyraud sought a choice vineyard and located a site in the Terrasses du Larzac, just south of Pic St. Loup. This area is held in very high regard for the balance and finesse that it's able to achieve.

The Terrasses du Larzac is based on a blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The varietals succeed incredibly well in the Languedoc. They endow the wine with plenty of freshness, finesse and soil tones.

The 2012 is a particularly bright vintage. The vibrancy is backed up with notes of earth, herbs, game, spice and minerals. It exemplifies the best of the Languedoc.

Mas des Brousses is made following the old school methods. The Terrasses du Larzac is aged in large foudres. The style is hearty with an appealing touch of rusticity. Simply put, it's complex, honest and compelling.

As the temperatures cool down, this is a wine to have around for hearty fall braises.
