Yesterday was the first day of fall, today we're offering rosé.
In most cases this would seem like absolute lunacy, but Tempier is different.
Tempier's Rosé is part of a very small group of rosés that boast a structure and age-worthiness that make them stand out. Think of the rosés of Château Simone, Cotat and Valentini's Cerasuolo. These are rosés that come close to demanding time in the cellar.
Out of the list above, it's Tempier's Bandol Rosé that we get the most requests for and have the most difficult time finding.
We're very excited to have landed this parcel of 2013 and 2014 Tempier Bandol Rosé. Please note that we're expecting these to arrive in early 2017.
We recently opened a 2012 Tempier Rosé that showed brilliantly, very youthful and fresh. It's the combination of depth, power, cut and a dazzling, bright backbone of minerality that causes people to buy cases of Tempier's Rosé. There may very well be no other rosé that combines seriousness and joyful drinkablity as well as Tempier does.
Tempier was one of the early pillars of Kermit Lynch's portfolio and has served as the standard bearer of Bandol for well over a half-century. Levi Dalton's I'll Drink To That! interview with Tempier's winemaker Daniel Ravier is well worth listening to for insight into the domaine.
Everything that you taste from Tempier is shockingly good. And when it comes to Bandol Rosé, there's nothing in the region that comes close to Tempier's. The 2013 and 2014 nicely contrast each other. The '13 is the zippier, more pointed of the two and the '14 shows more textural elements and grip. Both vintages deeply impress with how much complexity they offer, while managing to be supremely refreshing. There are notes of flowers, herbs, citrus, spice and a subtle, scorched earth minerality.
I'm going to wrap this up. Tempier's Rosé already has a rabid fan base. There's not much sense in fanning the fire. The only thing that I'll add is that we've never been able to offer Tempier's Rosé before, so I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this offer. Who knows the next time that it will happen.
