When I'm after beautifully classic and great value in Chambolle, Bertheau is the first place that I look.
In 2012, I took a flyer on a back-vintage parcel of Bertheau and the wines immediately became an obsession of mine.
They represent Burgundy without artifice - subtle, refined and gorgeously pure and mineral.

Bertheau nails the textbook qualities of Chambolle in a way that's rare for a village wine. This is especially true of the 2014. In this vintage, the Chambolle crackles with energy and is bursting with perfume and mineral-tinged red fruit, all backed by a silken texture.
Few producers do purity and transparency better than Bertheau. The comparisons are with people like Jean-Marie Fourrier. Jancis Robinson sums up our feelings about Bertheau very well: "I do wonder how he has managed to fly beneath the international burgundy-loving radar for so long. His wines are really outstanding - very pure and unforced."
Bertheau's are some of the Burgundies that I'm most fond of. I'm always excited to offer the Chambolle AC. Not many wines at this price point get to the heart of what makes red Burgundy beautiful the way that Bertheau's Chambolle does.
