"The 2015 stands out for its textural sophistication and total class"
Ulysse Collin Blanc de Noir Les Maillons Extra Brut (2015 Base)

Posted by Ian McFadden

The wines of Ulysse Collin are individual and intense, working on a grandness of scale that can nearly overwhelm the senses.

The Maillons represents the extreme conclusion of this style. There's a multi-dimensional complexity that seems to hit you from every angle.

Before taking over his family's vineyards, Collin spent time working under Anselme Selosse, which heavily influenced his winemaking style. For the Les Maillons, Collin harvests the Pinot Noir grapes uncommonly ripe resulting in a wine of kaleidoscopic complexity and serious drive.

Les Maillons is the most powerful wine in Collin’s lineup, sourced from 45-year-old Pinot vines on chalk and heavy clay soil. The Maillons has become really captivating in recent vintages. For all of its expansive power, the wine is shockingly delineated and clear.

The 2015 base is a textbook example of Maillons. There's a formidable structure with a core that radiates energy. The way that its breadth is combined with an electric mineral lift, makes it really noteworthy.

Collin is among a handful of vignerons redefining great Champagne. Collin makes some of the most breathtakingly unique wines in all of Champagne. We love his wines for their fascinating depth of complexity, incredible intensity, and sheer beauty. The 2015 Maillons is a monument to the incredibly compelling and multidimensional nature of Collin's wines.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2015 Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs Les Maillons is ample, creamy and also incredibly inviting. More than anything else, the 2015 stands out for its textural sophistication and total class. Here too, the significant presence of 2014 reserve wines (60%) works beautifully in capturing an attractive interplay of fruit richness, savory complexity and layers of texture. Gorgeous Pinot aromatics and flavors meld together in this striking, effortless Champagne from Olivier Collin. Dosage is 2.4 grams per liter."
