"The 2016 is lights out."
2016 Oddero Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva

Posted by Ian McFadden

Vigna Rionda is one of Barolo's great sites. It is a well-exposed, limestone-rich vineyard that has the potential to deliver epic Barolos.

In short, this is holy ground for Piedmont.

Oddero's Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva has been our favorite expression of the vineyard since the 2013 blew us away.

Today, we're happy to offer the 2016 Vigna Rionda Riserva.

This is simply an extraordinary expression of Barolo. As Antonio Galloni writes, "The 2016 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda brings together all the best this site and vintage have to offer."

We're huge fans of the 2016 Barolo vintage, but even in this context, Oddero's Rionda Riserva is off the charts.

The wine is a tour de force. It works on an epic scale with amazing refinement and explosive aromatics. The precision, grace, and silky tannins make it feel like the wine has it all. When you toss in the wine's mind-bending nuance, it becomes very clear why this is one of our favorite Barolos at the moment.

Many Barolo fanatics would place Oddero in the same realm as the region's greats. The 2016 Vigna Rionda Riserva leaves little doubt that this is the case.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2016 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda brings together all the best this site and vintage have to offer. Towering and statuesque in its presence, the 2016 is all pedigree. Dark cherry, lavender, licorice, violet, spice and graphite all soar from the glass. Medium in body, with gorgeous inner perfume and structure to burn, the 2016 is lights out. I love the complexity, nuance and energy here."
