You would be hard-pressed to find a wine with the complexity, longevity, and track record like Vega Sicilia's Unico.
Old bottles of Vega Sicilia have provided some of my most profound wine experiences. It's a vin de garde of the highest order. The wine reaches its peak 40-50 years after the vintage.
Today, I'm very happy to offer the epic 2009 Unico in magnum. There's no doubt that this will be a distance runner.
Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 and stands as the iconic Spanish wine. It is arguably the most collectible Spanish wine.
Built on primarily Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Vega Sicilia houses a formidable architecture and breathtaking complexity. If Ribera del Duero is recognized as being capable of producing great wines, Vega Sicilia has played an essential part.
The 2009 is intense, mineral stained, and incredibly multifaceted. There's explosive notes of exotic spices, dark berry fruit, violets, and dried herbs. For all its enveloping power, there's a seamless harmony and precision that makes clear that this is an elite wine.
It's rare that I get to offer Vega Sicilia. I'm happy to have the opportunity to offer magnums of the 2009. This is one of the world's great wines.
