"Clearly a jewel of a wine" -Antonio Galloni

Take note, because we have something of a fine & rare "Back Up the Truck."

Today we are able to present one of the greatest Brunello's of the 2006 vintage at the lowest price in the nation on 6-packs - a good $20 below the next lowest price in New York!

Writes Galloni: "It’s hard to know where to start with these new releases from Il Poggione, as every wine I tasted was strikingly beautiful... Il Poggione’s Brunello di Montalcino remains one of the most fairly priced, ageworthy wines on the planet."

Galloni's full review, reproduced below, is definitely worth reading.

Il Poggione is an estate that's been making spectacular traditional Brunellos for well over fifty years. Still, recent vintages have seen Il Poggione's wines hit an even higher level. They've broke into the ranks of Brunello's best - among the ranks of the producers like Poggio di Sotto, Salvioni, Cerbaiona, Soldera, etc.

Il Poggione's 2006 Brunello Riserva Vigna Paganelli is the top wine in their stable and it highlights just how high the quality of the estates' current releases are. This is a monumental Brunello with layer upon layer of complexity and the structure to age for decades.

As so many critics have written, the 2006 vintage in Brunello promises to be a modern benchmark. Brunello is the most powerful expression of Sangiovese, yet in its purest form, it has a shocking clarity to it, an extremely aromatic constitution that runs the gamut from smoke to fresh black cherry, to bramble, fields of wild grass and perfumed flowers. No recent vintage has been able to capture the power and finely detailed perfume the way 2006 has.

Il Poggione's Paganelli exemplifies the character of the vintage perfectly. There is a full-throttle intensity to the wine with an incredible length and persistence, but also subtle shadings of mineral and flowers, of incense and herbs. Above all, this is power married to elegance.

Il Poggione's Brunellos remain smart buys. Galloni sums it up perfectly when he writes: "I can’t think of too many properties in the world producing wines of this level at these prices."

For Brunello lovers, for people fascinated by the way that the best Italian reds can combine power and refinement, fruit with savory nuances, this is not to be missed.
