Simply put, Chave's Hermitage is one of the great wines of the world.
Chave's 1995 Hermitage is one of the examples of the wine that I'm especially fond of. It's certainly among my favorite vintages of Chave from the past few decades.
I'm very happy to offer Chave's 1995 Hermitage. To underscore the rarity, I should mention that these are the only bottles available in the country.
This is a decidedly old school vintage. Generally speaking, 1995 in the northern Rhône often strikes me as one of the last (and possibly the last) old-fashioned vintage.
There's plenty of structure, but what's most striking is how the wine combines a lightness and detailed leanness with a beautifully detailed expressiveness. It delivers a seamless weave of bright red fruits, spice, floral notes, and gaminess. The wine has an incredible length.
No one coaxes more intensity, complexity, or refinement from Syrah than Chave. The 1995 is both a monument to this and seems to be an artifact from a bygone era.
