The Epic Trilogy Returns
2020 Enderle & Moll Grand Crus

Posted by Joe Salamone

This marks only the second time in nearly fifteen years of supporting this tiny estate that we can offer this epic trilogy.

For us, Enderle & Moll are making some of the greatest Pinot Noirs in Germany. It's that simple. These are the Pinot Noirs that we introduced to the U.S. in 2008. They were, and they remain, a revelation.

Enderle & Moll's approach to Pinot Noir marks a watershed moment for German Pinot Noir, changing the focus from ripeness and new oak to old vines, balance, and a more considered, more delicate élevage.

These are among the most soil-driven and transparent Pinot Noirs from Germany. The fact they are labeled with their soil types - Muschelkalk (limestone) and Buntsandstein (colored sandstone) - is not a coincidence.

Today we are able to offer Grand Cru 3-Packs, one bottle of each of Enderle & Moll’s three “Grand Cru” bottlings, for only $164.85. (See below for more information on the bottlings and tasting notes).

The 2020ers have great depth and power, yet they are perhaps more direct, more concise, and even clearer than the 2018ers or the 2019ers.

If you love Pinot Noir and its ability to translate soil into wine, do not miss this offering. These wines are expressive, finessed, and possess a weightless intensity.

These are not inexpensive wines, and yet the quality and rarity cannot be overstated. Please give us your maximum order, and we’ll do our best to allocate as best we can.

2020 Enderle & Moll Grand Crus

Special 3-Pack Price (1 of each): $164.85

2020 Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir Grand Cru "Muschelkalk"

The Muschelkalk, or shell limestone bottling, is their oldest Pinot noir vines planted in the early 1950’s and thought to be the oldest in the area and among the oldest in Germany. This wine is quite simply breathtaking. This is, year in and year out, one of their greatest wines. The wine is seductive but not showy, elegance and restraint is paramount for their style.

2020 Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir Grand Cru "Buntsandstein"

The Buntsandstein, or colored sandstone bottling, is sourced from prime parcels of vines around 60 years old. Texturally this wine is the most pronounced of the vintage —more grip, but by no means overwrought as we are talking Enderle & Moll’s deft hand here. There is a lot of umami reading as soy sauce and seaweed, beckoning you to drink more.

2020 Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir Grand Cru "Buntsandstein Ida"

The Buntsandstein “Ida” is named lovingly after the former owner and caretaker of this small parcel planted around 50-60 years ago, with top clonal material and farmed organic for many years. It has chalky and somewhat chewy tannins. Still very elegant and tense, but it is the most coiled at the moment, giving a sense of bounds of unlayering and density to unravel.

2020 Enderle & Moll Grand Crus arrive 4/26.
