Jouan’s Gevrey-Chambertin "Aux Echézeaux" is one of our favorites. The 2017 is magical.
While Gevrey-Chambertin is known for its meatiness and power, Aux Echézeaux is surprisingly elegant. It is located in the southern end of the region, right next to Morey-St.-Denis, and produces wines that are much silkier and more delicate.
Many people taste Jouan's wines and immediately become obsessed with their grace and whispering complexity. The "Aux Echézeaux" bottling possesses these qualities in spades.
Jouan’s 2017 "Aux Echézeaux" is bright and ethereal. Its aromatics are intense, and the silky texture is downright seductive. In some ways, the gracefulness of the wine is classic Jouan, but the 2017 has freshness and verve that gives the wine a thrilling new dimension.
I've been scooping up 2017 red Burgundies whenever possible. The vintage offers a joyousness, radiance, and purity that's really beautiful. Jouan's "Aux Echézeaux" reminds you that the vintage is also capable of serious nuance.
In short, this is a vintage that beautifully displays what makes Jouan so special. You probably know by now that these wines tend to sell out fast. This is a don't miss.
