The Greatest Friulano?
2010 Borgo del Tiglio Friulano
Ronco della Chiesa

"Make no mistake about it, these are some of the most compelling whites being made anywhere in Italy."
-Antonio Galloni

Borgo del Tiglio's Ronco della Chiesa is an epic wine. It's as simple as that.

This is a wine that Burgundy lovers should take note of. There's a similar combination of depth of complexity, layered minerality and coiled energy.

Antonio Galloni mentions drinking a Ronco della Chiesa right after tasting all the greats of Burgundy, and it still blew him away. This is a wine that can definitely hang with the big boys.

The last I tasted the 2010 Ronco della Chiesa it was along with wines like Soldera Brunello and Chave Hermitage Blanc and I walked away really impressed.

As I mentioned in our offering of Borgo del Tiglio's basic Friulano a couple of weeks ago, there's no one in Friuli besides Miani making wines at this level.

In all likelihood, this is the greatest Friulano being made.

Ronco della Chiesa is from an old vine slope directly behind the winery. The wine boasts the layered intensity of these old vines. There's a remarkable palate presence to the wine as it offers up stone fruits, wet stones, flowers, ripe citrus and sweets all with a finely tuned harmony and elegance.

Ronco della Chiesa benefitted greatly from the clarity and cut of the 2010 vintage. There's an energy, finesse and length to it that's just lovely.

Borgo della Tiglio's 2010s are some of the most exciting wines I've tasted this year and Ronco della Chiesa is their magnum opus.

Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Ronco della Chiesa is another huge wine. The aromas and flavors still need to develop, but the 2010 shows remarkable depth and textural richness. This old-vine Friulano, from the hillside vineyard behind the winery, looks to have a very bright future."
