The Heart of the Matter
2008 Vilmart Coeur de Cuvée

We've been hunting for Vilmart's 2008 Coeur de Cuvée for months.

Without a doubt, it is one of our most anticipated grower Champagne releases of the vintage.

Coeur de Cuvée is easily one of the best grower Champagnes out there. And as soon as we tasted Vilmart's amazing 2008 Grand Cellier d'Or, we knew that the Coeur de Cuvée would be stunning.

2008 in Champagne is a vintage to go deep on, especially with a wine with a well-established track record for aging, like Coeur de Cuvée.

The vintage is defined by its sleek energy and balance. While 2002 and 1996 are defined by their power and ripeness, the 2008 vintage delivers a purity, balance and finesse that we haven’t seen since 1988.

Expect the 2008 Coeur de Cuvée to have beautiful, incisive elegance with loads of silky texture and refinement. The wine is always a study in nuance and detail, but as you can probably guess all of this is greatly amplified in 2008.

By now, many of you know the deal with Coeur de Cuvée. It's the "heart of the cuvée," the very best juice from the precious middle portion of the first pressing. Coeur de Cuvée is sourced from a choice single vineyard, Blanches Voies, from 50-year-old vines. Typical production is meager, somewhere around 5,000 bottles.

As Peter Liem writes, Coeur de Cuvée is "one of Champagne’s elite cult wines." There's an enormous fan club for the wine. In a vintage like 2008, we expect our modestly sized parcel to disappear quickly. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
