When you catch Métras' Beaujolais in the right spot, it's a simply captivating wine.
In vintages, like 2018 and 2023, Métras bottles two different Beaujolais based on earlier and later pickings. Métras only does separate bottlings when he feels that the wines are distinctive enough.
In broad strokes, the Première Mise bottling is brighter and nervier. The Deuxième Mise is a little more purple fruited and deeper and more nuanced. Both the Première and Deuxième Mise are equally intriguing and invite revisiting them.
The 2023 is an intense, powerful, and layered vintage in Beaujolais. Métras' 2023s maintain a bouncy lift and a fresh streak of granite-inflected minerality. As always, this is cloaked in a beautiful texture.
