Today's Oscar cocktail comes to us from a member of Team Spirit's extended family, Jeff St. Denis, who continues to deny having an Uncle Morey. Our idea for the King's Speech involved a lame attempt at a tongue twister, which I will spend the rest of the day trying to perfect. In the meantime, enjoy Jeff's recipe below. (As a measure of our appreciation, Jeff's getting a bottle of Redemption Rye AND Fee Brother's "The King's" Peach Bitters, compliments of Team Spirit. So, you know, bully for him.)
The King's Speech (aka Stammer Royale)
- 2 oz. Crown Royal Whisky
- 1/2 oz Basil Citrus syrup (recipe available upon request)
- 1/2 oz Ricard Anise
- 3 Dashes Fee Brothers Old Fashion B-B-Bitters
- Orange peel to garnish
Pour Whisky and Basil syrup into mixing glass. Add bitters and ice. Stir twelve times. Rinse cocktail glass with Ricard, discard excess and pour whisky mixture into glass. Gently squeeze orange peel over glass to release aromatic mist and drop peel into glass.
(Note from JSD: Crown Royal is an obvious choice of whisky, as it was actually created FOR King George himself. Stuttering/stammering is thought to be associated with the basal ganglia in the brain, hence the basil syrup. Twelve stirs = one for each Academy Award nomination.)
