Domaine des Closiers is the Loire domaine to watch.
Owner Anatole de la Brosse purchased a domaine from a retiring winemaker and enlisted the help of two of the region's legends, Nady Foucault of Clos Rougeard, and Michel Chevré, who worked at Roches Neuves. Basically, he enlisted the help of the region's two benchmarks.
The depth and textual fascination of Closiers' wines make it clear that the combination of terroir and talent is paying off.
Their 2021s are absolutely beautiful. Domaine des Closiers' first vintage was 2019. Their 2020s showed a swift learning curve. However, things clearly accelerated with the 2021s in a way that we couldn't have imagined.Â
In the Loire, 2021 is a classic, energetic, and vividly mineral year. It's a vintage that we love. Closiers obviously had their fingers on the vintage's pulse.Â
We offered Domaine des Closiers 2021 Les Closiers bottling last June. Today, we're happy to offer its more structured and serious sibling, Les Coudraies.
Like Les Closiers, Les Coudraies is sourced from multiple vineyards. The difference is that Les Coudraies is sourced from top sites that produce a deeper and more ageworthy wine.Â
We were impressed by the 2021Â Les Coudraies. The way it combines elegance, completeness, and lift shocked us. It is both elegantly sophisticated and honest. There's real punch to the notes of spice, herbs, earth, and more lifted floral tones.Â
Domaine des Closiers is located in the village of Parnay, which is home to rare sloping vineyards. The area is known for producing powerful expressions of Saumur-Champigny. The 2021 Les Coudraies highlights this quality.Â
Everything is in place for the 2021Â Les Coudraies to evolve into something beautiful. In due time, the 2021s may be viewed as the breakout vintage for this domaine. For now, I'll just say this is worth checking out.Â
