Prunelle de Navacelle was a new producer to us. The 2019 Beaujolais-Lantignié is very easily the most exciting bottle of Beaujolais that we've tasted in a very long time.
We were really impressed by the wine's architecture and its mineral drenched precision. The Beaujolais-Lantignié hits a level of balance and freshness that many of the region's other growers have struggled to achieve in the recent warm vintages. Prunelle De Navacelle's wine brought us back to the imminently drinkable Beaujolais that we prize Beaujolais for.
When you speak with Beaujolais growers about the best areas outside of the ten Crus, Lantignié is typically the first area that's mentioned. Prunelle is part of a group of ambitious young winemakers seeking Cru status for Lantignié. It's a great terroir situated very close to Morgon with soils of pink granite and volcanic blueschist.
The 2019 Beaujolais-Lantignié has a beautiful structure. There's a nicely judged firmness and a drive that carries a pristine expression of violets, stony minerality, and gently spiced dark fruits. The clarity of expression is really noteworthy and rarely encountered.
This is a part of Prunelle de Navacelle's individual project. Her family's winery, Château du Basty, where she is involved has been in the area since 1482. She works in the vineyards very naturally practicing regenerative agriculture.
The extreme care that Prunelle exercises in the vineyard and winery really show. The 2019 Beaujolais-Lantignié is simply a dynamite bottle of Beaujolais. As I said earlier, this is the most exciting bottle from the region that we've tasted in a very long time.
