Let's face it: it's easy to pigeonhole Brunellos as wines of raw power. Pertimali's Brunellos prove that the wines can show many more dimensions.
Brunello can startle in terms of its clarity and its aromatic fineness that can be incredibly evocative - smoke, fresh black cherry, bramble, fields of wild grass and perfumed flowers.

The value that Pertimali offers is only a small part of the story, but one that we should pause on. It could easily sell for 50% more.
Brunellos are without a doubt the most powerful, tannic and ageworthy expressions of the Sangiovese grape. Their reputation as being one of Italy's most elite and noble wines is well earned.
What makes us so impressed with Pertimali's Brunellos is the way that they tease out so much aromatic complexity from the Sangiovese Grosso grape and how the wines deliver these soaring aromatics with a sense of detail, harmony and lift.
Not surprisingly Pertimalis age very well, as much on their balance as on their tannic might. We've tasted wines back to the 80s and time unlocks an explosion of red fruits, spice, incense and minerals all wrapped around an elegant, bright core.
Beyond the thoughtful and subtle house style, a large part of the story is Pertimali's location. It's situated in the northern part of Montalcino where the conditions are ideal for making finessed, balanced and aromatically complex Brunellos.
Pertimali's northern location was a key factor in their huge success in 2007. 07 was a riper vintage and in the northern sector, the wines achieved a combination of balance, restraint and bright red fruits that make them stand out.
At its best, the 07s show many characteristics of 07 Red Burgundies. The wines are gorgeously expressive and open. Antonio Galloni's describing them as "silky wines that are radiant" really captures it well. Accordingly, Pertimali's 07 Brunello is drinking well now and will evolve well for the next 12-15 years.
Pertimali's Brunellos are reminders that Brunellos are wines of beauty as well as awe-inspiring, mouth-shredding power. It's for that reason that they're some of our favorites.
