Today marks our first ever offering of a Kabinett from Egon Müller's Le Gallais estate. The 2021 is a brilliant example of the Wiltinger braune Kupp Kabinett that was too good to pass up.
It's easy to understand how Müller's Wiltinger braune Kupp bottlings get overlooked. Müller and his Scharzhofberg are one of the great combinations of winemaker and vineyard. Wiltinger braune Kupp is a very different site than Scharzhofberg. Where Scharzhofberg is a fairly cool site, even for the Saar, Wiltinger braune Kupp is one of the riper vineyards of the Saar. In short, the two wines work on entirely different registers.
The 2021s from Le Gallais are stunning. The Kabinett may very well best highlight Le Gallais' success in this vintage.
Wiltinger braune Kupp typically delivers wines that are on the richer and darker side for the Saar. (Of course, it's worth keeping in mind that the Saar is very cool relative to much of Germany and elsewhere.) The 2021 Kabinett has a breathtaking finesse and radiant purity. There's a zippy and silken quality with gentle spice notes that makes the wine really thrilling.
The 2021 Kabinetts are so cut and classical that it's doubtful that we'll see another vintage like this anytime soon. We strongly encourage you to check the Le Gallais' Wiltinger braune Kupp Kabinett in its top form.
