To introduce this wine from Julian Haart, some of the backstory is necessary.
Starting in the 2018 vintage, Haart and Klaus Peter Keller agreed to essentially trade the management of some of their vineyards. Keller would manage Haart's Schubertslay vineyard in the Mosel and Haart would manage two of Keller's vineyards in the Rheinhessen.
The two sites that Haart would work are Frauenberg, a marl and limestone site with red clay, and Zellerweg am Schwarzen Herrgot, a more obscure site in a cool valley that's just south and west of Keller's home base in Flörsheim-Dalsheim.
In 2022, Haart bottled Grand Crus from each site in minuscule quantities. They also bottled a dry wine blending both sites, Rote Erden, which is on offer today.
The 2022 Rote Erden has the sleek energy of Haart's Mosel bottlings with the denser and more explosive glycerin-rich power that makes the top Rheinhessen bottlings so compelling.
There are few German producers as sought after as Julian Haart. Allocations are typically doled out in bottles or just a couple of cases. With only 0.6ha in the two sites in the Rheinhessen, we feel lucky to be able to offer this wine, but please keep in mind that the parcel is very modest and will sell out quickly.
