I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been blown away by a bottle of Drouhin’s Clos des Mouches.
It’s a wine that dramatically overachieves. I’ve been at many dinners where an old bottle of Clos des Mouches has outshined many of the Grand Crus at the table.
The 2014 is a gorgeous expression of the site. Drouhin turned out stunning 2014s, but even in the strong line-up, Clos de Mouches jumps out as a highlight. In 2014, all of Clos de Mouches' signature refinement and bright red fruit are presented with incredible purity and class.
2014 was a somewhat tricky vintage for the Côte de Beaune, but Drouhin judged the vintage really well, turning out a cast of beautifully clear, mineral-driven wines. Of the Domaine’s 2014 reds, Véronique Drouhin notes “A few years from now I think collectors are going to be very surprised by just how good they are.”
Clos des Mouches is one of the great gems in Drouhin's stable. It delivers the force of Beaune with a crystalline elegance and silken, suave texture. In 2014, the wine is elevated by amazing transparency, lift and pitch-perfect clarity.
Clos des Mouches was one of the first sites that Joseph Drouhin bought in the 1920s, situated in a choice mid-slope location - right against Beaune’s border with Pommard. The combination of old vines and limestone soil lends the wine a firm mineral spine and striking finesse.
Drouhin's Clos des Mouches is a special wine with a serious track record for aging. With time, it reveals incredible aromatics and a haunting, nuanced complexity. The 2014 seems to have everything in place for it to age beautifully. Very happy to offer.

2014 Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge
Burghound: "Tasting note: A discreet application of wood sets off equally reticent aromas that are at once more elegant and are mostly from the red side of the fruit spectrum along with hints of violet and soft spice nuances. The mouth feel of the middle weight flavors is also a bit more refined though they don't possess the same level of concentration, power or supporting structure. As such this should be accessible on the younger side yet reward up to a decade of cellar time."
