The extreme rarity of the Buntsandstein "Ida" should grab your attention; the profound seamlessness of the bottle will demand your attention.
The 2022 Grand Cru lineup at Enderle & Moll is a blockbuster.
The wines articulate soil and place with the shocking clarity that has made this estate one of the most famous in Germany for Pinot Noir.
Today we offer a focused list of Enderle & Moll fans a chance at what may be the most graceful Pinot Noir in the lineup, a wine sourced from an old-vine parcel farmed for many years by a woman named Ida. Out of respect, to honor her labors, the estate has named the top bottlings from this parcel the Buntsandstein "Ida."
When Ian and I tasted the Enderle & Moll 2022 Pinot Noirs, the "Ida" stuck out from the rest. It was the deepest and most harmonious.Â
The "Ida" parcel is tiny. In many years, despite the fact this old-vine parcel on sandstone has a unique signature, it is simply blended into the "Buntsandstein" bottling.
In the vintage 2022, the "Ida" could not be denied. It flaunts a silken touch, a dark-berry fruit that is heady and expansive, detailed by a dark minerality, a salty, almost resinous, and exceedingly clear and pure forest-floor note. This is simply a tour-de-force Baden Pinot Noir, one of the best we've tasted all year.
At $60, it is a wine that every serious lover of Pinot Noir should have in their cellar. With only around ten cases to have come to the U.S., it is also a wine that will disappear quickly.Â
