2007 Gerard Boulay Sancerre "Comtesse"
A Hedonist's Vatan or Cotat?

The 3rd vintage of a legend in the making...

Limited Quantity - Special Offer to Loire Supporters only!

Today I'm proud to offer the 2007 edition of a white wine that is not only a personal favorite, but a favorite of many of the Crush Crew.

I described the 2005 Comtesse as having "the outrageous concentration of an Egon Müller Auslese matched to the citrusy verve of a 96 white Burg."

Have no doubt: The "Comtesse" is to Sancerre what Ferrari is to automobiles, or Mario Cippolini was to the pro cycling peloton. This is very special juice sourced from 50-year-old vines in Sancerre's famed "Monts Damnés" vineyard - only a few barrels are made each year. This is one of the grandest and perhaps most outrageous expressions of Sauvignon Blanc on earth.

If the '05 was dazzling, full-throttle, technicolor, satiny and luscious and 2006 was ripe as all get-out, the 2007 "Comtesse" shows more definition, a more muscular architecture with a denser yet crisper palate. The nose is absolutely explosive - supercharged green citrus paired with ripe grapefruit, peach, flowers and honeydew melon. The fireworks continue on the palate with lime supported by a bright and cooling chalky-white minerality. The purity of the fruit and the perfumed ocean-water minerality are just mesmerizing and in 2007, it is absolutely crystal clear.

The 2005 flew off the shelves and requests for more had to be turned down. The 2006 was even more difficult - and bottles had to be doled out.  While we've been able to secure more for 2007, quantities are still so limited that we've had to focus this offering *only* to those of you who have supported our Loire Valley program.

Looking back, this makes perfect sense because the lux-cuvée Comtesse has put Gérard Boulay on a plain with Sancerre's finest producers, right up there with "Sancerre Savants" Edmond Vatan, the Cotats, and Thomas-Labaille.

I'll keep this (relatively) short because we have but a few cases of this super-Sancerre to offer. To order, please call the store as soon as possible at (212) 980-9463 or click below.
