The leaves changing color and falling from the trees; the first cold night when you can see your breath; the first occasion to dust off your winter coat. This time of year comes with no shortage of heraldic moments.
Now the spirits world has its answer to these non-potable harbingers of cold weather: I'm pleased to introduce you to Modern Spirits Pumpkin Pie Artisan Vodka.
Pumpkin Pie Vodka is a seasonal installment in a line of the best-made and best-tasting flavored vodkas we've ever tried. In a market dominated by increasingly exotic flavors all being prepared in the same sterile laboratory, Modern Spirits uses a different approach. They start by hand-blending premium wheat and potato vodka, then infuse it with all natural, real ingredients - things you would actually eat. To make their Pumpkin Pie vodka, they've infused pumpkin puree and a blend of spices according to a secret family recipe for baked pumpkin pie. The result is a gently flavored, amber-colored spirit that smells and tastes like the season itself.
Try Pumpkin Pie vodka chilled and served neat as a unique pairing for any savory meal, especially one including braised meats or roasted poultry (know anyone roasting a turkey this month?). Or, combine 2oz. of Pumpkin Pie vodka with a shot of cream and some maple syrup over ice, shake the concoction vigorously, and strain into a cocktail glass for a creamy, smooth after-dinner drink that will remind you of Pumpkin Chiffon Pie, and may just take the place of dessert entirely.
Last year, we received only a small allocation of Pumpkin Pie vodka, and what wasn't snatched up by the staff and opened at our own holiday parties was sold out off the shelf in a matter of days. This year we made sure to reserve enough to be able to offer it to all of you in the Crush community, but you can be sure that, like your cloud of breath or the just-fallen leaves, Pumpkin Pie vodka will be gone before you know it.

Vodka with Dinner?
Vodka can be paired with food, just like wine. Litty Mathew and Melkon Khosrovian's handmade artisanal vodkas are changing the perception that vodka is just for mixing or shots.
Their Modern Spirits are delicate, nuanced and creative, using ingredients that come straight from the kitchen: black truffles, celery peppercorn, and candied ginger. These are vodkas for "foodies" - Litty is trained in classic French cooking and Melkon's family dinners always included vodka, so he started experimenting with vodka infusions, using fruits and spices to add depth and personality.
While the generic flavored vodkas that crowd the shelves of liquor stores rely on artificial fruit flavors, Modern Spirits uses only fresh ingredients from select orchard-ripe fruits and exotic spices from French teas to wild honey and beyond. The results are incredible.
These are "sipping vodkas" that are not in the least bit harsh (they are lower in alcohol, 35% compared with the 40% of most vodkas) and their delicacy truly allows pairing with food. Perfect for the holidays.
