The Standard Bearer:
2017 Roagna Barbaresco Pajè

Posted by Ian McFadden

It's difficult to think of Roagna and not think of the Pajé vineyard.

They have other great sites, like Asili, but Pajé often seems like the beating heart of the estate.

Roagna is the benchmark producer for Barbaresco, and to a large extent, their reputation is grounded in the Pajè.

The wines are currently reaching a mind-blowing purity and textural allure. There's a jaw-dropping depth and balance to the wines.

At Roagna, 2017 is a brilliant vintage. Across the range, the wines have a very bright and expressive profile.

I was excited to land this parcel of 2017 Barbaresco Pajè that I can offer at the lowest price in the country - $124.95.

The 2017 Pajè has an extraordinary amount of transparency and depth. It offers up layers of vivid dark fruits, florals, game, and spice. There's a great length and grip on the finish.

As always, Pajè is one of the undoubtedly high points of Roagna's 2017 collection. It's a gorgeous and soaring example of the site.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2017 Barbaresco Pajè offers up a compelling mélange of sweet redtoned fruit, cinnamon, blood orange, leather, cedar and tobacco. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2017 fleshes out nicely with a bit of time in the glass, showing its natural breadth and creaminess. Here, too, there is a good bit of immediacy and overall appeal."
