The Total Package - Burgundy Value
2017 Fornerol Côte de Nuits Villages Blanc & Rouge

Posted by Ian McFadden

Few Burgundies have taken hold at Crush like Fornerol's.

It's rare for Burgundies to nail the combination of deliciousness, rigor and affordability like Fornerol's Côte de Nuits Villages does. The wines are simply shocking in this regard.

From 1982-1998, Fornerol worked as the vineyard manager and cellar master at Domaine D’Arlot under Burgundy legend Jean-Pierre de Smet. In 1999, Fornerol left to take over his family’s estate, but when de Smet retired, he joined Fornerol and now assists him with all aspects of winemaking. The success of this partnership is abundantly clear.

The style here is unlike most Burgundies that you'll taste today. They look back to the Burgundies of the old days thriving on grace and lightness.

Fornerol produced gorgeous 2017s. They possess a clarity and precision that's really impressive. They're also simply lively and charming.

The Côte de Nuits Blanc comes from a 0.80 hectare parcel. The 2017 has stunning focus and elegance. It has a sleek, stony texture with a minerality that really punches through the notes of stone fruits.

The 2017 Côte de Nuits Rouge has an incredibly silky texture with spiced dark fruits and earthy minerality. It possess the outrageous drinkability that's one of Fornerol's hallmarks. However, it's far from a mere quaffer - there's incredible refinement and detail to the wine.

These are without question some of our favorite everyday Burgundies. We encourage you to take advantage of today’s pack pricing - it’s not likely to stay this low for very long. You'll want these around in quantity.
