Also, the outrageous top-to-bottom quality of Lafarge's range blows us away. Everything from their Aligote all the way up to their mighty Clos des Chenes is stunning and a benchmark in its own right.
With that said, the Volnay is one of my go-to bottles. It's a wine that I stash in my cellar in quantity. Lafarge's Volnay struts a stony rigor, energy, and a seriousness and complexity that's exceedingly rare for the category. There’s beautiful tension and lift.Â
Lafarge's 2017 Volnay boasts an impressive crackling brightness and brilliant clarity. It's difficult not to be wowed by the wine's detail, precision, and harmony. There's a completeness to the wine that's really compelling.Â
Lafarge is one of our favorite producers; there is just something about the delineation, the fine-ness, and the purity of the wines. The 2017 Volnay is the perfect example of this.Â
