2008 marks the vintage where Mugnier's Maréchale arrived.

Throughout the late 90s and early 2000s Mugnier moved swiftly to the top ranks of the Côte d'Or.

Then, in 2008 everything clicked into overdrive. Very few producers in Burgundy achieve this level of transparency, fineness and regal elegance. Out of all of Mugnier's great 2008s, it's the Maréchale that stands out the most. Until 2004, Mugnier had leased Maréchale out to Faiveley. 2008 is when the learning curving with the site really accelerated.

For this reason, I've always had a particular fondness for Mugnier's 2008s. When I saw this parcel of Clos de la Maréchale mags, I jumped on it.

Maréchale is a special wine. Nuits is known for its muscle, its characterful rustic edge. Without betraying the inherent power of the Nuits, Mugnier's 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale renders it with an incredible amount of refinement. The wine delivers well-delineated notes of earth, mineral, dark red fruits and flowers.

In 2008, Maréchale shines with pitch perfect clarity. It's an ultra-fine, delineated expression of the site. There's plenty of energy and finesse with a long complexly mineral finish.

Maréchale is the value of Mugnier's line-up. It's doubtful that I'll see another parcel of magnums. My suggestion is don't miss.
