"There is a really lovely sense of verve"
2018 Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru La Forest

Posted by Ian McFadden

Dauvissat nailed the 2018 vintage.

Vincent Dauvissat compares the vintage to the legendary vintages of 1947 and 1959.

Like 1947 and 1959, 2018 is a riper vintage. What's extraordinary about Dauvissat's 2018s is how they marry tension and power. As is often the case, Forest is one of the stars of the lineup. It is defined by a saline, crushed rock minerality that's finely etched.

The 2018 Forest is simultaneously deeply concentrated and outrageously refined and focused. There's a riveting, detailed minerality and an impressive, lengthy finish.

Along with Raveneau's Butteaux and Montée de Tonnerre, Dauvissat's Forest is the most sought after and ageworthy 1er Cru. There's an incredible complexity and finesse to Dauvissat's Forest that's revealed with time in the cellar.

This is one of Chablis' iconic wines. I won't belabor this anymore. The 2018 Forest is one of the top examples of the vintage. I'm happy to have another opportunity to offer it.

Burghound: "Like the Montée de Tonnerre this is overtly floral in character on the lightly spiced nose that displays additional aromas of mineral reduction, iodine, lemon peel and pear. There is a really lovely sense of verve suffusing the powerful yet reasonably refined larger-scaled flavors that culminate in an almost chewy finish thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract. This isn't as refined as the Montée de Tonnerre but it's just as complex and persistent.."
