In 2016, Lauer's Neuenberg hits an implausible harmony.
Neuenberg is one of the greatest parcels in the Ayler Kupp. The 2016 may very well be the best proportioned vintage to date.
As we taste more and more of Lauer's 2016s, it's clear how strong the vintage is here. The 2016 collection excels when it comes to transparency, texture and harmony.
Neuenberg was first bottled separately in 2010 and has very quickly become one of the top bottlings in the Lauer collection. It manages an expansive power with incredible detail and finesse.
Even in this context, the 2016 Neuenberg offers up an astonishing amount of refinement and poise. Jean Fisch and David Rayer of Mosel Fine Wines sum it up well when they write, "This is a classy effort." It amazes with its silky incisiveness. It offers a bright and polished presentation of stone fruits that are complicated by an emphatic slate-y minerality and spices.
Lauer has a knack for marrying power and generous depth of fruit to an architecture that is sharply defined. The 2016 Neuenberg really flaunts this special touch that Lauer has with Riesling. We expect it to age beautifully in the midterm.
