Weiser-Künstler has cemented its place as one of Germany’s greatest estates.
At the core of it, the superlative quality of this domaine comes down to great sites and an utter uncompromising stance towards quality.
In short, Weiser-Künstler does everything right, and it very much shows in their pure, painstakingly intricate and simply magical Rieslings.
Their Riesling Sekt serves as a very compelling example of this ethos. It comes from 50-year-old ungrafted vines in the famed vineyard of Enkircher Zeppwingert. It's important to compare this to how the majority of Sekt on the market is produced. Sadly, most Sekt is overcropped and sourced indiscriminately. Regardless of your point of reference, you'd be hard-pressed to find a sekt with a comparable pedigree to Weiser-Künstler's.
Their Sekt changed how we view the potential for the entire category. This Weiser-Künstler has laser-like stony minerality and an unparalleled delicacy. There's no doubt that this wine of incredible finesse came from a great vineyard under the careful watch of a sensitive winemaker.
As Mosel Fine Wine writes, the 2017 “is a gorgeous Sekt.” We fully agree. It's subtle, but the wine's complexity is difficult to overlook running from stony fruits to ginger, sweet herbs, and a fascinating toastiness.
Weiser-Künstler's 2017 are stunning, but the combination of frost and hail knocked yields down to painful quantities even in the context of this tiny estate. Needless to say, we expect our modest parcel to sell out quickly. Don’t wait.

Mosel Fine Wines: “The 2017er Enkircher Zeppwingert Riesling Sekt Brut comes a parcel still planted with 50 year-old un-grafted vines, and was aged on its lees for 15 months before being disgorged and bottled with a dosage of 6 g/l in July 2019 (the disgorgement date is not provided on the label but there is only one batch made of this Sekt). It offers a nicely complex nose made of yeasty elements, spices, herbs, a hint of baked apple, and a delicate touch of ginger. The Sekt is quite subtle and delicate on the palate and leaves a superbly engaging feel in the classy finish. This is a gorgeous Sekt which will offer much pleasure over the coming few years!”
