"This is a quality Bonnes-Mares of grace"
2019 Bertheau Bonnes-Mares

In any vintage, Bertheau's Bonnes-Mares is something that I aggressively chase down. With only 0.34ha, it takes a lot of work and yields far too few bottles.

Bertheau's 2019 Bonnes-Mares is simply profound.

The simple way to sum up Bonnes-Mares is that it combines finesse with power. What Bertheau does with this Grand Cru is stunning. Bonnes-Mares' power is on display, but it's rendered with a startling amount of subtlety, refinement, and energy.

The 2019 red Burgundy vintage boasts an incredibly concentrated profile with plentiful but refined tannins and a staggering amount of freshness and elegance for such a ripe vintage. It's a dream brew. Bertheau's style flourished in 2019.

The combination of vintage and producer created amazing results. In 2019, Bonnes-Mares boasts incredible intensity and refinement. Bonnes-Mares' power is on display, but it's rendered with a startling amount of subtlety and energy. For all of its restraint, there's an explosive aroma of dark red fruits, floral notes, and orange peel.

Bertheau's Bonnes-Mares evolves amazingly well in the cellar. We recently drank a devastatingly good 2007. I'm really excited to taste the 2019 in a decade or so. I'm happy to have another opportunity to offer.

Burghound: "A slightly riper nose features notes of plum, various spice elements, earth and pretty floral nuances and in particular violet. The delicious and vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess a bit more size, weight and power, yet the mid-palate is relatively supple, all wrapped in a tautly muscular finish that tightens up considerably. This is a quality Bonnes-Mares of grace and a certain refinement that should also age well over the mid- to perhaps even longer-term."
