"This is absolutely superb"
2020 D'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds

Posted by Ian McFadden

When I visited d'Angerville in 2022, I was blown away by the 2020s.

I felt exactly the same way when I tasted them again recently. The wines have an incredible freshness, depth, and class. In short, it's the total package.

Burghound places the 2020s as among the greatest wines d'Angerville has produced in the past two decades: "I too have long thought that the d'Angerville 2010s may be the best wines made here in the 21st Century but the breathtakingly good 2020s may indeed one day supplant them. "

Today, we're excited to offer d'Angerville's 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds.

Taillepieds is one of d'Angerville's wines that people get obsessed with. There's a group of people who hold Taillepieds even more dear than Ducs.

Taillepieds is all about raciness - it's full of stony minerality and has an intricate depth. The Taillepieds plot sits just above Champans and is very steeply sloped with poor, rocky soil.

The 2020 is destined to be an epic example of the wine. It is blazingly clear and very nicely detailed. At the same time, the wine is intense, boasting a punchy mineral drive and gripping presence. This is certainly a bottle that you can expect to age beautifully.

This is definitely an offer that I don't feel a need to belabor. Taillepieds is one of d'Angerville's top wines and a personal favorite. I'm happy to have another opportunity to offer this.

Burghound: "This is even spicier with a terrific range of floral elements as well on the aromas of plum, violet and ripe dark raspberry. The firm, focused and almost painfully intense mineral-driven flavors are at once chiseled and breathtakingly long on the balanced, compact, austere and built-to-age finale. This is absolutely superb though note well that this is a wine to allow at least 7 to 8 years first as it's presently a block; a beautiful and very classy block, but a block nonetheless."
