This is a wine that we offer every vintage. For us, it's a never-to-be-missed wine.
With that said, the 2022 is special.
Drouhin was incredibly successful in 2022. As The Wine Advocate's William Kelley writes: "The Drouhin family remains committed to the ideal of elegance, and the 2022 vintage has played into their hands in that respect, producing a crop of sensual, charming wines that come warmly recommended." Of course, Clos des Mouches Rouge is one of the standouts of their 2022 lineup.
Simply put: Clos des Mouches is an incredible site. If Beaune is known for being somewhat sturdy and rustic, Clos des Mouches is something of an anomaly; the wine is strikingly elegant, suave, and silky in texture.
The 2022 very nicely consolidates what makes Clos des Mouches such a fascinating and compelling outlier. It possesses a radiant, silky fineness and rigorous structure that has made it a secret among serious Burgundy fanatics for years.
I’ve been to many dinners where an old bottle of Clos des Mouches has outshined many of the Grand Crus at the table. I'm very happy to have the opportunity to offer the 2022. It is gorgeous.
